TWO women have been seriously injured in a head-on crash.
The accident, which happened near Durham City yesterday morning, left a 75-year-old woman and a 22-year-old woman in hospital.
The two-car crash involved a beige Nissan Micra and a red Citroen Saxo which collided on Cocken Road, Leamside, near to the Cocken Lodge Golf Course just after 8.30am.
The driver of the Citroen, a 22-year-old woman from Sherburn Village was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle suffering leg injuries.
The driver of the Nissan, a 75-year-old woman from Finchale, was taken to James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough suffering with chest injuries. Both are this morning described as being in a stable condition.
Investigating officer, PC Andrew Wells said: “I am keen to speak to anyone that may have seen either of these vehicles in the area prior to the collision or may have witnessed the collision itself.”
Witnesses are asked to contact Durham Police on 101 and ask for the Collision Investigation Unit.
