FREEMASONS have donated a total of £13,000 to six hospices.

The Provincial Grand Lodge of Durham Freemasons split the money between St Cuthbert’s Hospice in Durham City, St Teresa’s Hospice in Darlington, Hartlepool and District Hospice, St Clare’s Hospice in Jarrow and the two Butterwick hospices, in Stockton and Bishop Auckland.

Cheques were handed over at St Cuthbert’s Hospice following a tour of the facility.

Deputy provincial grand master John Arthur said: “Since 1984 the Freemasons Grand Charity has donated over £11m towards the operating costs of hospice services across England and Wales.

“This is just another example of one of the fantastic initiatives we as Freemasons support.

“The work carried out at these hospices is crucial and we are delighted to be able to assist.”
