AN anti-cuts campaign group is holding a Valentine's Day rally in support of the hospital in Hartlepool.

The Teesside People's Assembly and Save Our Hospital Hartlepool are urging everyone who cares about the future of local health services to support the "We Love Hartlepool Hospital" rally on Saturday.

The rally is part of a national day of action for the NHS instigated by grassroots campaign group 999 Call for the NHS.

The demonstration will be held in Victory Square, Hartlepool, by the town's war memorial on Saturday from 11am.

As well as a range of speakers, the event will feature a giant Valentine card with a heartfelt message to the North Tees & Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust.

Campaigners are unhappy about the fact that many of the Hartlepool hospital's services have been withdrawn and relocated to Stockton, including Accident and Emergency and Intensive Care.

The original reason given for the cuts was the prospect of a new hospital in Wynyard - but those plans have been suspended.
