A HIGH court judge in Malyasia has ruled that a fishmonger stand trial for the murder of two Newcastle University students.

Neil Dalton and Aidan Brunger, both 22, were on a hospital placement in Borneo when they were stabbed from behind and left for dead.

A high court judge has ruled that Zulkipli Abdullah, 24, will be tried in March over their deaths.

The medical students, both 22, were just days away from completing their placements at Sarawak General Hospital in Borneo, where they were murdered.

Abdullah, from Kampung Gersik, was charged with two counts of murder after the friends were found lying in the road in the early hours of August 6 last year.

No charges were brought against four other suspects who were arrested with the accused.

Mr Dalton, was from Derbyshire, while Mr Brunger, was from Kent.

Both have since been awarded honorary degrees by the university and friends organised a charity football match in their memory.

The trial of Abdullah, 24, is due begin early next month.
