POLICE pepper sprayed a man and a woman after they allegedly refused to stop having sex in a pub’s toilets.

The woman, aged 23, and a 30-year-old man, both of Bishop Auckland, were half dressed when they were arrested and taken out of the Stanley Jefferson pub, in Bishop Auckland.

Officers were called to the town centre pub at about 8.30pm on Wednesday, January 28, the pair refused to come out of the ladies toilets.

Witnesses said officers used the pepper spray after the man and woman became aggressive.

A spokeswoman for Durham Police said: “A 30-year-old man and a 23-year-old woman, both of Bishop Auckland, were arrested at the Stanley Jefferson public house in the Market Place, Bishop Auckland, on Wednesday night in connection with a public order offence.

“They have been bailed pending further inquires.”
