Spraire Lasses

THE Under-10s won the Russell Foster Girls Youth League Tournament at Newbottle last weekend.

The Under-12s played good football but just were unable to score and lost both games 2-0 against Plains Farm and Consett.

Four goalkeepers were used with Ellie Armstrong and Ellie “Amos” Noble keeping clean sheets.

The players played in unfamiliar positions to help their progression. Lauren Naisbitt and Courtney Vickers played in midfield and forward positions with both going close to scoring. Katie “Tatty” Taylor hit a rasping drive that the Lumley goalkeeper did well to hold.

Anna Barteman and Abigail Fry made strong tackles with Abi coming close to scoring a number of times. Sophia Lyons showed her versatility playing defence, midfield and attack.

The Under-13s had a great 6-1 win at South Durham and Cestria. Katie “Kit-Kat” Bragg hit a hat-trick, while Lydia Shale and Sacha both scored.

The Under-15s lost 4-2 to Washington. Sophie Storey and Lona Race scored the goals.

The Under-17s lost to league leaders Cramlington, who have several academy players.

Spraire Lasses train at Hummersknott on Monday evenings 6-7pm. If you are a keen player and are 5-years-old and older give Linda and Dave Scott a call for more details on 01325 253581, mobile 07906 071481 or email djscott251@ntlworld.com.

Redcar Town FC

THE Under-14 Blues lost 3-1 at home to Bishop Auckland. Harry Noble scored a 40 yard free-kick, but they could not build on their lead. Jack Eaton, returning from a broken collarbone, had a fine game in midfield as did Jordan Woodall. Noble was a tower of strength at the back and Curtis Holmes showed some nice touches up front.

The Under-13 Whites kept their title charge on track with a 6-3 win at Darlington RA Locos. Goals from Jamie Kerr (2), Jack Charlton, Jack Bowden, Alex Jackson and Marshall Merry.

Middleton Rangers

THE Under-8s won 4-0 against Leven Juniors. Two penalty decisions either side of half time saw Ben put Middleton into the lead and he completed his hat-trick later on with Matthew also scoring.

The Under-10s got back to winning ways with a 2-1 win at 21st Allstars Jets.

William Watt opened the scoring early on when he latched on to Johnny Robinson’s cross to head in. Jack Spuhler made it two-nil from a Benjamin Rodker pass, but Allstars pulled one back midway through the second half.

The Under-11s were 6-0 winners at home to Leven. Joe Clendenning opened the scoring before Joseph Craig doubled their lead with a shot from outside the box.

Cairns Wilkinson headed in from a corner to make it three after the break and three more goals came courtesy of Clendenning, who shared the man of the match award with Craig.

The Under-12s beat Spraire Lads Elite 5-0. In a frustrating half, Middleton came up against an inspired goalkeeper, but they finally broke the deadlock when Tom Pickard finished off a good move involving Will and Alfie.

Liam Walton doubled their lead with a cross-cum-shot and a third arrived via Pickard.

Walton produced the goal of the game to head in Pickard’s corner, and he grabbed his hat-trick late on from a bursting run forward.

The Under-13s won 3-2 at home to Stokesley. Rangers took an early lead against the league leaders from a great move started by Alex Littlefair, who whipped in a superb cross for Louis O’Neill to lay off to Nathan Warwick to float the ball back in for Hope Neba to flick in.

Stokesley levelled, but Louis restored Rangers’ lead. Neba then slid the ball through to Al Steven to coolly finish for 3-1. Stokesley got a consolation in the last minute.
