A TEENAGER took exception to being asked to leave his local pub at closing time, a court was told.

Scott Derek Jones refused to leave the Aclet, in Bishop Auckland, County Durham, late on Saturday, December 13.

He smashed a couple of glasses on the bar and was thrown out of the premises by another drinker.

But, Durham Crown Court heard that he went home and armed himself with a knife, before returning and causing a disturbance outside the premises, in Brooklands.

Liam O’Brien, prosecuting, said a couple of other customers leaving the pub spoke to Jones, trying to calm him down.

But Jones continued to behave aggressively and swung at two of the men, causing injury to both, while pointing it a third person, in a threatening manner.

He then fled the scene, chased by some of the aggrieved customers from the pub, who angrily banged at the door.

Jones’ parents took him into the house and ensured he stayed there until police arrived and arrested him.

Mr O’Brien said one of men slashed with knife suffered an injury to his palm, but the other received a facial cut, which is expected to leave permanent scarring.

Jones, of Aclet Close, Bishop Auckland, admitted two counts of assault causing actual bodily harm, and one each of affray and possessing an offensive weapon in public.

The court heard he now has nine convictions for 15 offences.

Simon Perkins, mitigating, said, in drink, Jones showed “poor thinking skills”, and simply armed himself with a kitchen knife, which he swung at the victims, rather than making direct stabbing motions.

Imposing a 16 month sentence in a young offenders’ institution, Judge Simon Hickey told Jones he could have simply remained at home.

But, having chosen to arm himself with the knife, went back and caused the disturbance outside the pub, leaving two innocent parties injured, one with permanent scarring as a result.
