A GRANDMOTHER made a last-minute 200-mile dash to support her two daughters as both gave birth six days late.

Doreen Worswick, of Rillington, North Yorkshire, was staying with her elder daughter, Kathryn Collins, in London to help her move house before the birth of her second child, when she received a call to say her other daughter, Julia Salisbury, had gone into labour in York.

However, Kathryn’s waters had also just broken and Mrs Worswick said she didn’t know what to do.

Mrs Worswick went to St Thomas’ Hospital in London to support Kathryn, who gave birth to Finnian at 11.45am, before boarding the next train to York, arriving at York Hospital with an hour to spare before the birth of Julia’s son, George, at 11.15pm on December 22.

Mrs Worswick said: “It was quite a rush getting from London to York, but the girls had always wanted me there and I was just glad I was able to support both of them."

Mrs Salisbury said: “I am very close to my sister, but even we couldn’t believe it when we were given the same due dates and then to have our babies on the same day a week early is amazing.

“It was really important for me to have mum there as it was my first baby and I’m just glad she made it.

“Mum has always wanted twins and this is as close as she is going to get to them - we are going to have a fantastic first birthday party.”
