POLICE are investigating after two men forced their way into a house armed with a knife and metal pole.

The intruders, wearing ski masks and blue hoodies, assaulted two men inside the house before making off.

The incident took place in Dene Crescent, Wallsend, just after 2.05am, on Sunday.

A 40-year-old man suffered a head injury and two puncture wounds to his arm. A 38-year-old man also received cuts to his hands as a result of the incident.

Both were taken by ambulance to the RVI for treatment where they remain with injuries not believed to be life threatening.

Detective Inspector Jeff Brown, from Northumbria Police, said: "Our investigations into this incident are continuing and we're doing all we can to locate those responsible.

"We have officers in the area carrying out house to house enquiries but also providing reassurance to those living nearby.

"I'd urge anyone who may have seen these men enter or leave the address to come forward as their information could assist us.

"People can speak to officers patrolling or call us - their information will be treated in the strictest of confidence."
