A YOUNG man from Stockton is taking advantage of a new work experience opportunity at a theatre in Stockton.
Daniel Hawkes, 18, from Newtown is working as a lighting technician in Stockton Riverside College’s production of Cinderella at the ARC in Stockton.
After leaving Grangefield School, he successfully completed bricklaying courses at Stockton Riverside College but then struggled to find work.
Mr Hawkes got onto the work placement through the STAR programme, which is part of Stockton Council’s Youth Engagement and Support Project, which aims to provide opportunities for young people from 14 to 24.
The project aims to move young people forward toward learning, training and employment, offering guidance and support to those who may face obstacles to finding work.
Mr Hawkes said: “All of the staff I’ve been working with have been very helpful and I am grateful for their time and effort.”
Stockton Council’s Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, Councillor Ann McCoy, said: “This project is part of a programme of schemes we provide for young people to support them in improving their employment prospects.”
