AN animal charity received a festive gift from one of its most loyal supporters today (Monday, December 22).

Sainsbury’s in Sedgefield donated a trolley-load of dog, cat and rabbit food to the National Animal Sanctuary Support League (NASSL) to ensure all the animals enjoy some tasty treats on Christmas Day.

The charity, which has a base in Newton Aycliffe, is dedicated to the welfare of domestic animals and injured wildlife.

As well as its main sanctuary facility, it has an expanding network of animal foster homes located across the UK.

Animal-loving staff at Sainsbury’s voted for it to be the store’s charity of the year and have already raised more than £1,500 through customer donations, special events and in-store raffles.

Jo Robinson, of Sainsbury’s, said the animal charity had been a popular choice among staff, adding: “We would like to thanks all our customers and the local community for their generous donations to our charity of the year.

“NASSL is doing a fantastic job caring and re-homing animals in need and we are delighted to help.”
