THERE'S a new top dog at a North-East law firm and this cool customer looks set to become an internet sensation.

Hewie, an 18-month old Border Terrier, ‘works' at Hewitts Solicitors in Bishop Auckland and has become a firm favourite with staff and dog-loving clients.

The loveable legal eagle carries out all his work pro bone-o and even has his own twitter account, @hewittshound, where he discusses animal related stories and legal problems with his 300 plus followers.

Hewie is particularly concerned with the number of pet minders and dog walkers without adequate liability insurance and is urging these businesses to seek legal advice.

Owner Helen Roberts, a commercial property expert at Hewitts, said: “We’re all animal-lovers and the partners were very happy for him to ’join’ the firm. Without their support it wouldn’t have been possible to own a dog.”

Hewie, who lives in Barnard Castle, was recently put on a diet and exercise plan because his popularity led to him receiving too many treats.

“He’s very sociable and people just seemed to like having him around the place,” said Ms Roberts.

“Now he does the rounds every morning dropping by the accounts team, the IT department and hanging out around the canteen area.

“He knows some of the clients, who like dogs and express a preference to meet him.

“He’s had a really positive-effect. Having an office dog is a great conversation starter.”
