RUNNERS donned Santa Claus and elf outfits as they brought festive cheer to Barnard Castle as they took part in a fun run.

The Teesdale Athletics Club fun run headed round the Bowes Museum and Barnard Castle School this morning (Sunday, December 21).

An adult fun run saw 77 people wear Santa outfits to complete a 5km course while 29 youngsters, aged under-ten, wore elf hats for a 1km course.

There were no winners in the event and the proceeds from the event will go to the Barnard Castle Lions Club.

Donna Hawcroft, club treasurer, said: “It was a very good day and it was a success.

“This is the first time that we have held this event and we are looking to build on it for the coming years.”
