PUPILS have been inspired to promote a mock election at their school after a North-East MP paid them a visit.
Darlington MP Jenny Chapman discussed local and national politics with students from Carmel College, in Darlington.
When asked by student Emily Rance how she became involved in national politics, Mrs Chapman replied “that her interest in politics at a local level had inspired her to take this further”.
After grilling the MP on everything from splitting her time between Westminster and Darlington, to the media’s role in politics, the students were inspired to promote their own mock election, organised by history teacher Vanessa Pitt, which is due to be held in spring next year.
