AN HISTORIC landmark building will be brought to life for a very special outdoor carols service.

Holy Trinity Church, on Trinity Green, Stockton, which is rarely opened to the public, and has no roof following a fire in 1991, will host a free community carols service from 6.30pm on Monday, December 22.

Led by the Reverend Philip Ashdown, the carols service includes the Salvation Army Band, St Peter's church in Parkfield's choir and the St Cuthbert's Primary School choir, along with community carols.

David Rose, ward councillor for Parkfield and Oxbridge, who helps to organise the annual event, said: "This is a carols services organised and enjoyed by local people. The community comes together to make this happen and we hope for a great turnout from all ages and parts of the borough.

"With an open roof, this historic church, with the walls largely intact, is a great setting. It can be cold, standing for around 45 minutes so we ask people to wrap up warm and if possible bring a torch to read the carols sheet, though we will have some torches available."

The event is free and will start at 6.30pm. Doors open around 6.15pm.
