A FESTIVE fair in a Darlington village proved that Christmas is for everyone – including our four-legged friends.

Dogs dressed as Santas and a host of canine-themed stalls including a doggy tombola and a ‘barkery’ offering festive treats ensured that Man’s Best Friend was at the heart of the Christmas celebrations at Dog’s Trust Darlington.

Crowds descended on the Sadberge centre to soak up the festive atmosphere and Sue Embleton, rehoming centre manager, described the annual Christmas fair as the highlight of the charity’s calendar.

She added: “With all proceeds of items sold going towards the care of our dogs at the centre whilst they await new homes, it’s a wonderful way to raise pounds for hounds and give something back this Christmas.”

Last year’s Christmas fair raised almost £6,000 for the charity and it is hoped that this year’s fundraising initiatives, including a high-value raffle and an auction of a signed Newcastle FC shirt will help, the charity beat that amount.
