A SPORTS coach has set up a new children’s football team in just a few weeks.

Richard Manuel, of Crook, set up Willington Whites under-tens Football Club, last month.

He already has a team of ten players, two local sponsors and a full home and away strip, after being asked to create the team in Willington.

Mr Manuel, who is a self-employed sports coach, said he can not believe it has been done in such a short space of time.

He said: “It’s unbelievable how quickly it’s all come around, I’m really happy, and the kids love it.

“They are bouncing off the walls and love their new kits. I asked an old school friend if they would like to sponsor the team and they said yes straight away.

“My wife’s colleague also offered to sponsor us which is brilliant, we are so grateful to them both.”

Sponsor and business owner Tracy Skinner, of Home Comfort Carpets, in Crook, said she was delighted to be able to support a local team.

John Campbell of Campbell Roofing Services added: “I think local businesses should help the young people where they can, and I’m pleased to help.”

The new team trains on Mondays from 6pm to 7pm and Wednesdays from 6.30pm to 7.30pm at the Parkside Academy, in Willington.
