A MAGNA Carta specialist will discuss plans to celebrate the key document’s 800th anniversary in a North-East talk.
Seif El Rashidi, Magna Carta programme manager at Salisbury Cathedral, will give a talk titled Magna Carta 800: Why Should We Care? in Durham on Sunday, December 7.
The 800th anniversary is next year.
Mr El Rashidi, a former Durham World Heritage Site co-ordinator, said: “It will be great to come back to Durham to talk about this important document.
“Magna Carta is one of the world’s most significant agreements. Its influence is to be found across the globe even today, after 800 years.
“Celebrations are planned around the country. The talk will shed light on why Magna Carta is still important today and on the fascinating history.”
Durham Cathedral holds three copies of Magna Carta, dated 1216, 1225 and 1300.
The talk will be held in Holgate House, Durham University’s Grey College, South Road, Durham City, on Sunday, December 7, at 2.15pm. Entry is free and open to all.
