AN Indian restaurant in Darlington has been named one of the top ten best eateries in the UK offering food from the sub-continent.

Cafe Spice, in Clark’s Yard, off Skinnergate, was named the best restaurant in the North East by the Bangladesh Caterers Association in its ninth annual awards.

The restaurant, owned by Brian Miah, was honoured at a ceremony at Grosvenor House Hotel in London hosted by presenter Tamsin Lucia-Khan and Masterchef’s Gregg Wallace.

Labour leader Ed Miliband also spoke at the event, where he praised the contributions of the British-Bangladeshi community.

Mr Miah, who employs seven people, said he was proud of his achievement in winning the award, which came after judges visited his restaurant.

He added: “They chose four from the region and we came out top, which was very pleasing.”
