ARMY Cadets from North-East have helped to create a striking installation at the Tower of London.

Youngsters from Durham Army Cadet Force planted ceramic poppies in the moat that surrounds the home of the Crown Jewels.

Paul Cummins’ artwork Blood Swept Lands and Seas of Red marks the centenary of the start of the First World War and will feature a poppy for all 888,246 British military casualties

The final poppy be planted on Remembrance Day, November 11.

During the October school half-term break , 100 cadets and adult Volunteers from County Durham, Gateshead and South Tyneside, Gateshead made and installed poppies.

They met other volunteers from all over the UK and were honoured to meet many veterans, Chelsea Pensioners and members of the Victoria Cross and George Cross Association who all visited the memorial and planted a poppy.

The party took advantage of being in the capital and visited the Imperial War Museum, Churchill’s War Rooms and many other famous sites.

They stayed at the Clapham Junction HQ of South West London Army Cadet Force.
