NORTH-East singers will compete for the choir of the year title next month (Sunday, December 7).

The Durham-based Northern Spirit Singers will contest the Choir of the Year competition, the UK’s biggest largest amateur singing competition, at Manchester’s Bridgewater Hall on Sunday, December 7.

The choir qualified by winning the adult category and will go up against five others from across the country.

Expert judge Paul Mealor, composer for the Royal wedding and the Military Wives Choir, said: “This competition really shows off the very best in choral singing and lets the world see and hear how great Britain’s choirs are.”

The event will be recorded for broadcast on BBC Four and BBC Radio 3 will broadcast highlights on its programme The Choir.

The entertainment starts at 5pm and tickets priced £15 can be booked by calling 0161-9079000. For further details, visit choiroftheyear.com
