AN entertainer is holding a cabaret night for the hospice that cared for her father and grandfather.

Sarah Dawson, 26, is holding the event, for St Cuthbert’s in Durham City , at Hallgarth Manor, Pittington, on Friday, November 7, from 7pm to midnight .

She said: “Tickets are selling well – people know they have got a good night out ahead of them – and that they are helping a worthy cause.”

The entertainment includes Durham comic Brenda Collins and the prizes include a three-night stay at the Nidd Hall Hotel near Harrogate, where Ms Dawson is assistant entertainments manager.

Ms Dawson, from Carville, said: “I want to do my dad and Granddad proud.

“My granddad, Ralph Phillips, was taken into the hospice for respite care shortly before he died in 2011. The staff in the hospice were great and very supportive during his time there.

“My dad, Edward Dawson, initially went into the hospice to help manage his medication. But he took a turn for the worse and passed peacefully with my mam and sister by his side in December, 2012.

“Again the staff, during and after this time, were simply amazing. My family and I couldn't have asked for anything more.”

Ms Dawson hopes to raise £4,000 for the hospice and will walk the Inca Trail in Peru next April.

Tickets for the cabaret night cost £10. Call Ms Dawson on 07792135450 or e-mail sarahdawson02@hotmail.co.uk
