POLICE are appealing for information after an elderly woman was robbed by a cycling thief.

The robbery happened at about 4.50pm in Cleadon Street, Walker, Newcastle, yesterday (Thursday, October 30).

The offender, who was on a bike, pushed the woman off balance - but not knocking her over - before taking money from her coat pocket and riding off.

The woman was not injured but was left shaken.

Enquiries are being carried out and police are appealing for witnesses.

The offender is described as male, 5ft 10in tall, with a light grey hooded top on with the hood up and over his face.

Neighbourhood Sergeant Paul Duncan said: "This was obviously an incredibly frightening experience for the victim who has been left shaken by what happened. It is possible the offender had followed the victim from nearby shops.

"Officers will be in the area both to reassure any residents who may concerned and to carry out enquiries into the robbery."

Witnesses should ring Northumbria Police on 101, extension 69191, quoting reference 873 301014, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800-555-111.
