PARENTS are being urged to warn their children of the dangers of climbing pylons or of playing near to electricity lines.

Northern Powergrid wants to help reduce the number of deaths and injuries due to electricity across the North-East and North Yorkshire.

Geoff Earl, director of safety at Northern Powergrid, said: “It’s vital that parents remind youngsters of the dangers so they realise that interfering, accidentally or otherwise, with any part of the electricity network can potentially prove fatal.

“We appeal to all parents and guardians to spend a few minutes chatting with their children about the potential dangers and what they should do if they accidently kick their football into a substation or see anything hanging from our power lines."
