POLICE are urging a hit-and-run driver to come forward after a cyclist was knocked off his bike.

The incident happened at about 12.15pm today (Thursday, October 30) on the A1086 coast road at Blackhall Rocks, near the entrance to Dene Mouth Caravan Park, County Durham.

The cyclist, a man in his late 30s, from South Tyneside, was knocked off his machine into a parked car.

He suffered minor injuries and was treated at a near his home.

It is believed the cyclist was clipped by the wing mirror of a black, family-sized saloon car, knocking him off and pushing him and his bike into a black Vauxhall Insignia. Both his bike and the Insignia were damaged.

PC Kieron Goulden, of Durham Police’s roads policing unit, said: “I would ask the driver of the black saloon to get in touch with us.

“It is unlikely they were unaware of what happened and we would like to speak to them about the incident.”

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call on the non-emergency number 101.
