A BUTCHERS shop has been rolling back the years to celebrate 60 years in business.

Blackwell's Butchers is offering customers a taste of forgotten cuts of meat such as scrag of lamb and pork cheek and jowl as it winds back the clock to 1954.

The award winning shop is also offering a range of pies including rabbit with black pudding and old English game pie to tickle the taste buds.

Anna Blackwell, assistant manager and granddaughter of the firm's founder, said: "Throughout the week we have been celebrating the 60th anniversary of the business by offering our customers a range cuts of meat and pies that were people when the shop first opened.

"We have had a live band playing outside the shop and tomorrow (Saturday, October 25) will be offering people free samples of our food with a taster session and there will also be a chance to try some drink which is being supplied by a local business."

The company, based on Norton High Street, is in the running for national butcher shop of the year after being crowned the North-East regional finalist. The winner of the competition will be announced next month.
