THERE were more than 50 reported crimes and 48 reports of anti-social behaviour in North Yorkshire’s county town last month.

Sergeant Simon Wilson told Northallerton Town Council that theft, including theft from shops, was the most reported crime, with 18 incidents.

That was followed by 15 incidents of violence, eight of criminal damage and five of burglaries of homes and commercial properties.

There were just four other crimes, including drugs, and police received no reports of any hate crimes.

Sgt Wilson also revealed that changes are on the way among the senior figures of the local policing scene.

From October 27 the new area commander will be Superintendent Mike Walker, who will be in overall charge of Hambleton and Richmondshire as well as Craven, Harrogate and Selby,

The new deputy commander will be Chief Inspector Nick Hunter, covering Hambleton, Richmondshire and Craven.

Sarah Sanderson will be stepping down as the temporary chief inspector for Hambleton and Richmondshire to become the inspector for Northallerton and Stokesley.
