THE Military Wives, Affiliates, Girlfriends and Servicewomen's Choir from Catterick Garrison are set to join forces with Northallerton Male Voice Choir to raise funds for a charity.

Two choirs will perform a one-off concert on Saturday, November 29, at Thirsk School and Sixth Form College to boost the Thirsk, Sowerby and District Community Care Association.

The association, which was established more than 30 years ago, works to improve health, reduce isolation and loneliness, promote volunteering and support other not for profit organisations.

It has been credited with transforming the lives of individuals and communities in Hambleton and Richmondshire districts.

A spokesman for the Northallerton choir said: “Both choirs are thrilled to unite voices for an excellent local cause and we look forward to making this an exciting fundraising event for the community care association.”

The male voice choir was formed by Bob Barratt in 1968 to bring musical enjoyment to both the community and its members.

It performs throughout the area to raise funds for local groups, churches and charities.

The Catterick choir has been the inspiration for a television series and numerous other choirs at military bases across the country since it was formed in 2010.

Through the weekly rehearsals, its members are given an opportunity to get together, support each other and have fun.

Tickets, costing £15 for adults and £10 for under-16s, for the 7.30pm show are available from Thirsk Community Care on 01845 523115 or Thirsk Tourist Information Centre. A glass of wine and canapés are included.
