THREE men made off with a significant amount of cash during a robbery at a petrol station.

The suspects walked into Fir Tree filling station, near Crook, just before 8pm last night, demanding the keys to the safe from the cashier.

The member of staff was shaken but unharmed in the incident.

One of the men was described as wearing a blue boiler suit with the other two wearing camouflage clothing. All three men had their faces covered.

Detective Sergeant Peter Lonsdale, from Crook CID, said “I am keen to speak with anyone who was in the area at the time mentioned or anyone who knows the identity of any of the three men. “This was clearly a very upsetting incident for the cashier and with this in mind I would urge anyone with information to contact police.”

Witnesses should call Durham Police on 101 or via Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800-555-111.
