AN inventor has developed a device which he believes could help cut down on the number of motorcyclists killed on the roads.

Stephen Butler, of Fairfield Close, Stockton, has designed a prototype box to go on a car dashboard, which flashes up "Think Bike" every time the driver indicates.

He said he believes it could cut the number of deaths and injuries - 30 each day - suffered by motorcyclists on UK roads.

"Lots of drivers just don't see motorcyclists when they are checking for traffic at a junction," he said. "I think this device could make a huge difference by reminding people each time. I have been using it on my dashboard and it certainly makes me think.

"I'd like a few different people to try it out and see what they think. I took it to a motorbike shop and they think it's a great idea."

Mr Butler said he thought the device was particularly important after watching a video of David Holmes, 38, who was killed in Norfolk last year when a car turned into his path on the A47. The impact was captured on the camera which he wore on his crash helmet and after his death his mother Brenda decided to release the footage to make drivers more aware of motorbikes.
