A FARMER is fed up of cars smashing through his wall after yet another one brought it down and ended up lodged in a tree.

David Hull, of Royal Oak Farm near Bishop Auckland, woke this morning (Tuesday, September 30) to find a blue Volkswagen Polo wedged between hedges and a tree.

The driver, a 23-year-old local woman, sustained minor injuries and attended Darlington Memorial Hospital along with a 33-year-old man, who was the front seat passenger.

The car is believed to have been travelling on the B6275 towards the A68 when the accident happened.

Mr Hull said: “This is maybe the seventh or eighth time this has happened, and every time the cars are getting further and further onto our land.

“The council made some changes to the junction in around 2002, but if anything it has made the problem worse, because drivers don’t see it. There’s no lighting on the road.

“I don’t want it to get to the point where somebody has to lose their life before something is done about this junction.

“I don’t want to get up one morning to find people laying flowers in memory of someone who has died.”

The farm has been in the family for more than 50 years and Mr Hull has lived there his entire life.

His sister, Margaret Dods, added: “We are absolutely sick of this happening. The car that’s in the tree could have easily crashed into the stable with my pony in.

“The paddock can’t be used now and our pony will have to stay in the stable until this is all cleaned up which could take weeks.

“You can see it’s covered in covered in glass, rubble and fuel, so it’s not safe for it to be eating off this grass.”

PC John Hufford, of Durham Police said: “Police are investigating a collision believed to have occurred last night on the A68 road at Royal Oak Farm.

“At about 11.30pm, a Volkswagen Polo left the carriageway before crashing through a wall into a field and landing in a tree.”

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the force’s road policing unit on 101.

A spokesman from Durham County Council said they will investigate the matter working with Durham Police.
