Crook Town finally won their first league game at the 12th attempt when they beat West Allotment 3-1 at the Millfield last night.

Crook thought they were on their way when Kallum Holbrook put them in the lead at the start of the second half, but David Dormand equalised for Allotment shortly after.

But Crook recovered for Stuart Rose to make it 2-1, then late in the game Kieran Weekes added a third.

Newton Aycliffe went down 3-0 at Newcastle Benfield.

Aycliffe held their own in the first half and were goalless at half time, but at the start of the second half, Paul Brayson scored twice. Stephen Tobin headed a third for Benfield to put them in good shape for their FA Cup tie at Buxton on Saturday.

In the league cup, Bishop Auckland won 4-1 at Birtley. Bishops took the lead in the first minute, when Stuart Thompson was brought down in the area, and James Warnett scored from the spot. After Birtley levelled through Anthony Ward, Danny Brunskill headed against the post for Bishops, before Graham Irving restored Bishops’ lead with a header from a corner on 43 minutes Glen Lane crossed for Brunskill to get the third on 50 minutes, and he supplied the cross again for Kyle Davis to score a few minutes later. Bishops also had defender Lewis Brown red carded in an off the ball incident.

Shildon beat Whickham by the same scoreline at Dean Street.

Micky Rae gave Shildon the lead when he finished off a good move involving Billy Greulich-Smith and Ben Wood, and he missed a good chance for a second before half time. Lee Paul Scroggins hit the post for Shildon in the second half, but Whickham equalised with a header by Chad Collins.

Wood then had a penalty saved by Whickham keeper John Mordey, but Scroggins headed Shildon into the lead, with Mordey shown a red card for hitting the Shildon player. Shildon then went 3-1 up when Billy Greulich-Smith scored in a goalmouth scramble, then Greulich-Smith fired a fourth.

 

South Shields went down 4-2 at Penrith after being 2-0 up at one stage.

Lee Maitland and Adam Sharp scored for Shields in the first half, but Jordan Little pulled a goal back from the spot for Penrith. Dan Smales levelled right at the of the 90 minutes, and in the second period of extra time Grant Davidson and Ryan Hall scored.
