RAIN failed to put a dampener on a racecourse's Ladies’ Day event, as scores of racegoers turned on the style in an attempt to secure best dressed prizes.
Wendy Kelly, of Redcar, won top honours at Thirsk Racecourse with a red coatdress and a red and blue hat.
The win secured her a place in the final of the Go Racing in Yorkshire Best Dressed Lady Competition, which will see the winners of similar competitions at each of Yorkshire’s nine racecourses come together at Doncaster Races, on October 25, to compete for a prize package worth £4,000.
The Best Ladies’ Hat Competition was won Julie Moore, also from Redcar, with a black, white and red feather and rose hat.
James Sanderson, the racecourse's general manager said: “Even the poor weather was blown away by the high standard of turnout."
