POLICE have arrested four men in connection with a raid on a supermarket.

Security staff were delivering money to Asda, in Marina Way, Hartlepool, at 4.50am on Monday, September 1, when the incident happened.

Four men, aged 22, 24, 25 and 49 from the Durham area, have since been arrested in connection with the incident and they remain on police bail pending further enquiries.

Police are now appealing for any members of the public or businesses in the town that may have come into contact with bank notes stained with dye to contact them.

Detective Constable Tony Keogh, from Cleveland Police Organised Crime Unit, said: “We know that two local Hartlepool businesses have come into contact with bank notes which have been stained with a blue coloured dye.

“We believe that these notes may have been stolen in a robbery at Asda on Marina Way.

“We would appeal for any other businesses or any members of the public that have come into contact with notes such as these to contact us.”
