Sir, – I applaud the letter that Donald Harker wrote (D&S Times, August 15) drawing attention again to the usage of speed humps and road safety in Skeeby.
I am a resident of 40 years and as Mr Harker in his numerous letters in the past says no other proposal is being considered. I am surprised that no response has come from the parish council supporting Donald in his personal effort to help solve the problem of speed humps and road safety.
I was invited to a meeting in the past conducted by Cllr Heseltine on the subject speed humps. I am sure the notes that Cllr Heseltine will recall my concern at the damage to my car, a Nissan Micra. The two-year-old car had damage to the front suspension, which the mechanic confirmed could have been caused by speed humps. I have no doubt that small cars are being damaged.
Stand any day and observe the traffic through Skeeby and you will notice that large vehicles do not slow down.
I am not interested in the past history on the excuses made by the professionals as Donald describes, but that the responsible authorities take another look at speed humps.
As Mr Harker is the voice of reason for Skeeby, it is in everybody's interest to support him. Let's have a meeting again, put aside any vendettas and come to an agreement to this problem.
WILLIAM PRICE
