A VILLAGE hall at the heart of its community is fundraising for a defibrillator.

Trimdon Grange Community Centre hopes to raise £800 for the machine, which can be a potential lifesaver to someone suffering a heart attack.

On Saturday, September 27, volunteers and committee members are staging a barbecue and family fun day in aid of the cause, with any additional funds being donated to the British Heart Foundation.

The Shorts and Shades Summer Holiday Barbeque will also feature a tombola, face painting, games, raffle, hook-a-fish, raffle, balloon pop and limbo competition.

There will also be prizes for the wackiest outfits.

Geraldine Wilson, a member of the community centre’s events committee, said: “Every year, we organise a fundraiser, usually for Breast Cancer Care. This year, someone suggested we do something to help people with heart problems and that gave us the idea of saving for a defibrillator.

“We have a lot of key holders here so if there was an emergency it would be an easy place to access.

“I think this is something every community should have, as it could potentially save lives.”

The event takes place from 3pm to 7pm and tickets cost £3 for adults and £1.50 for children, including BBQ food.

Ms Wilson said: “I hope lots of residents will support us. This is something that will benefit the whole community, as you never know when or who might need it.”
