A FAMILY fun day held in memory of a teenager who died shortly after his 18th birthday has raised money for the Royal British Legion.

The Celebration of Life festival, in Bishop Middleham, near Sedgefield, was launched as a tribute to former trainee bricklayer Kyle Robinson who died of a brain haemorrhage in 2010.

This year’s event on Saturday (September 6) was in aid of the military charity on the 100th anniversary of the outbreak of the First World War.

It featured Newcastle-based history re-enactment group, Time Bandits, who staged mock battles and carried out wartime songs and activities.

There was also a mixture of comedy, live music and entertainment at the Bishop Middleham Park event.

Visitors could also see a Punch and Judy show, fun house, magic show and comedy by Sue Sweeney plus the Lorraine Crosby Band and Marty Scott.

Joanie Sheehan, an organiser of the event, said: “So far it’s been a fantastic and fun day and I think it will be a success.

“There are quite a few people at the event and they all seem to be enjoying it.

“We decided to support the Royal British Legion as it is 100-years since the start of First World War.”

The first fun day organised in Sedgefield raised more than £2,000 for the neurological department of The James Cook University Hospital, in Middlesbrough.

The next two festivals raised £2,500 for the Great North Air Ambulance and £2,400 for the Make-A-Wish-Foundation.
