THERE’S A FORT: Dr Chris Ferguson, head curator at Auckland Castle which is bidding to buy the site, at Binchester Roman Fort
I READ with interest the article about the potential sale of the Roman fort remains at Binchester, near Bishop Auckland (Echo, Aug 30). These ruins date back more than 2,000 years and are a very important part of our local history.
I agree with The Northern Echo’s concerns regarding any sale of the land and would like to see the site extended and remain open to the public.
I once visited this site with a relative from Devon, who was most impressed. A visit is well recommended.
