A BODY has been recovered from a river.
Durham Police confirmed a body was being recovered from the River Wear in Durham city centre at about 4pm today (Thursday, September 3).
Police officers and firefighters were involved in the operation, working from the banks of the Wear near Framwelgate Bridge.
The ancient bridge was closed to pedestrians while the body was recovered.
The identity of the body has not yet been released.
