RAILWAY HERITAGE: Trainee Steve Hopper helps to overhaul the beam engine
A HISTORICAL artefact from the Industrial Revolution has undergone an overhaul in time for visitors to view it at a railway museum.
Heritage Skills trainees at Locomotion: The National Railway Museum at Shildon have worked on the 19th century beam engine.
It dates from around 1830 and is thought to have been used in Timothy Hackworth’s Soho Works in Shildon.
It will be on show at the museum’s Soho Engine shed as part of the national Heritage Open Days project. Visitors can also see the Shildon work’s bell from 1858.
The Soho Engine Shed is open daily between Thursday, September 11, and Sunday, September 14, from 10am to 5pm. For details call 01388-777999 or log onto nrm.org.uk/locomotion
