A FAMILY fun day set up in memory of a teenager who died weeks after his 18th birthday will commemorate the heroes of the First World War this year this weekend.

The Celebration of Life festival, in Bishop Middleham, near Sedgefield, will feature battle re-enactments and wartime songs and activities, alongside its usual mixture of comedy, live music and family entertainment.

Now in its fourth year, the event was launched as a tribute to teenager Kyle Robinson, who died of a brain haemorrhage in 2010.

Friends and family of the trainee bricklayer were keen to organise an event that reflected his cheerful personality.

The first fun day raised more than £2,000 for the neurological department of The James Cook University Hospital, in Middlesbrough, and the two festivals that followed raised £2,500 for the Great North Air Ambulance and £2,400 for the Make-A-Wish-Foundation.

This year, the chosen charity is the Royal British Legion and the event, which takes place in the village park from 2pm on Saturday, September 6, is gearing up to be the best to date.

Other highlights will include a Punch and Jody Show, magic show, stalls, refreshments, fun house and a tea party.

From 6pm until 11.30am, in the main marquee, there will be music and comedy sketches, including performances by comedienne Sue Sweeney, the Lorraine Crosby Band and Marty Scott.

Admission during the day is free.

Tickets for the evening entertainment cost £7 for adults or £4 for children and are available from Julie Hall on 01740-652976 or Joanie Sheehan on 07841-087827.
