ON behalf of the Middleton St George Memorial Association, I would like to thank everyone who helped and was involved in our hosting of the visit by the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum’s Lancaster, V-R-A, last Wednesday and Thursday at Durham Tees Valley Airport.

It was an amazing occasion and could not have taken place without the wonderful Joanne Agar, the manager at the St George Hotel, and all her staff – the hotel was the officer’s mess during the Second World War.

The wartime meal and entertainment were first class.

Also thanks to Shaun Woods, manager of the airport, and his staff, for their co-operation.

A huge thank-you to the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum for bringing its Lancaster Mk X, V-R-A, all the way from Canada.

My personal thanks to the museum for the presentation of the wonderful crystal cube, of the Lancaster, that I have by my right hand as I write.

Also thanks to Thwaites Brewery for the commemorative gifts for everyone who attended the wartime meal at the St George Hotel – see my left hand.

Thanks again to everyone who made it possible and so very special.

Geoff Hill, chairman, Middleton St George Memorial Association.
