A DRUNK who spat in the face of a station worker after being ejected from a train is being sought by police.

The incident took place at Northallerton station on August 15 after two men were thrown off a train travelling from London because they were drunk and being abusive.

Investigating officer PC Tony McGhin said: “When they attempted to board another train, the 7.18pm service from Kings Cross to Sunderland, they were again refused travel by a member of station staff due to their behaviour.

“One of the men then spat in the face of the member of staff, a 44–year-old man from Ashington in Northumberland, leaving him with spittle on his face and jacket.

“Offensive and unpleasant behaviour such as this towards a member of staff who was simply carrying out his job is completely unacceptable and will not be tolerated.”

It is believed the men were intending to travel to Hartlepool or Sunderland and police have now released a CCTV image of a man they would like to speak to in connection with the incident.

“I am keen to identify and speak to the man in this photograph as I believe he will have information which can assist the investigation,” said PC McGhin.
