A FORMER soldier who has raised tens of thousands of pounds for Help for Heroes hopes to be on target with his next charity event.

Phil Bartlett, from Spennymoor, County Durham, is organising a clay pigeon shooting competition on Sunday, October 12, from 9am.

The event will be at Spennymoor and District Clay Pigeon Gun Club, at West House Farm, Fishburn.

There will be two competitions- a 100 down the line shoot and 50 sporting shoot- along with a raffle and auction.

Mr Bartlett, formerly of the Royal Corps of Transport, has raised around £36,000 over the last five years for Help for Heroes.

His cash crusade this year has included bag packs at Asda supermarket, in Spennymoor, with another planned for Saturday, October 4, and concludes with the clay pigeon shoot.

He said: “It has become an annual event and attracts 150 to 200 competitors from across the North, I hope it is another great day because the lads and lasses of our forces need our support.”
