CHILDREN turned up in droves for a sing-along screening of the hit Disney film Frozen at a new mobile cinema.

The screening was organised by a local group of the National Citizen Service, which is showing the sing-along version of Frozen ahead of its DVD release.

The mobile cinema rolled into Stanley Civic Hall yesterday (Wednesday, August 27) and reached the Fulforth Centre, in Sacriston this morning with both screenings seeing a huge response from local families.

Team leader of the NCS group Samantha Keith said: “Stanley Civic Hall was a sell-out; we were full up and sold out of sweets in the tuck shop. Kids were dressed up as the characters and singing along.

“Unfortunately we had to turn people away, which the kids were disappointed by, but we’re showing Frozen Sing Along at Sacriston on Thursday and Consett on Friday, so hopefully more of the children will get to see it.”

The National Citizen Service is an organisation for 16 to 17 year olds to build skills for work and life, while also helping the local community.

The group had originally thought of creating a drive-in cinema, but decided to utilise the mobile cinema system that was set up by the Chester-le-Street Area Action Partnership (AAP), and bring the big screen to more people.

Ms Keith said: “Our main goal is to create the cinema experience for low income families with two or three kids who might not be able to go to a cinema normally.

“While this is just a one-off event for our team, we are hoping that the local AAP will continue what we’ve done during upcoming school holidays.”

The final event takes place tomorrow (Friday) in St Patrick's Church Hall, in Consett at 11am.

All of the profits from the £1 tickets and tuck shop sales will go to the Teenage Cancer Trust.
