POLICE are investigating after a collision between two cars, which injured both drivers.

It happened on the outskirts of Consett, County Durham, yesterday (Wednesday, August 27) afternoon just before 3.10pm on the A691 at Iveston, close to the car park for the Pavilion restaurant.

Two vehicles were involved, a blue Ford Focus driven by a 36-year-old man from Wingate and a red Toyota Yaris, driven by a woman aged 62 from Leadgate.

The Focus driver is in the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle with injuries which include a broken hip, while the Toyota driver was transferred to the RVI after initial treatment at the University Hospital North Durham.

She has internal injuries and is classed as ‘serious but stable’.

A spokesman for Durham Constabulary said: “It appears the crash happened when the Focus, which was travelling south took a right hand bend just south of the Leadgate Industrial Estate and then for an unknown reason collided with the Yaris, which was heading in the opposite direction.

“The road was closed to traffic four around four-and-a-half hours.

“Any witnesses who may have seen either vehicle on the road prior to the crash are asked to contact the collision investigation unit via 101.”
