A FLORIST hopes to quash stereotypes about flower arranging and inspire youngsters to take up the art at a workshop next month.
Once described as “the north’s hippest florist”, Adam Prest, from Sedgefield, County Durham, is not your average flower arranger.
The 30-year-old rarely plays by the rules and creates floral displays that are works of art in their own right.
And now Mr Prest is on a mission to prove that flower arranging is a fun hobby that encourages creativity and a greater appreciation of the natural world.
He will hold a free workshop and competition for children and young people at RE, an upcycling shop in Corbridge, Northumberland, from 10am to 5pm on Saturday, September 20.
“You don’t have to follow the rules or spend a fortune to create beautiful arrangements,” said Mr Prest.
“Flower arranging is a way of expressing yourself. There is no right or wrong.”
Participants can bring finished displays or can make them on the day, with judging taking place at 4pm.
Flowers and foliage will be available but people are welcome to bring their own.
