A COMMUNITY centre is seeking donations for an auction to raise funds for maintenance work and mounting running costs.

Neville Parade Community Centre in Newton Aycliffe is a vibrant hub, with about 150 people per week making use of its facilities and the wide range of activities on offer.

However, ongoing maintenance and high running costs mean the community centre committee is always looking for ways to raise funds.

And, on Saturday, September 13, it is holding an auction of goods and gifts.

Donations already received include champagne, digital cameras, televisions, golf clubs and hotel meal vouchers.

But more is needed and Peter Beaty and other committee members are calling on residents and businesses to contribute.

Mr Beaty said: “It would be fantastic if we could raise £1,000.

“This is the only community building in the whole of the east area of Newton Aycliffe. It is important we keep it going as it serves so many people.”

The auction starts at 2pm and items can be viewed all morning.

Donations can be dropped off at the centre or collection can be arranged by calling 01325-313924.
