DETAILS of changes to a plan for a 500-home extension to a market town are set to be unveiled.

Malton landowners, the Fitzwilliam Estate, will hold a public consultation event to detail its latest blueprints for High Malton, which it says would be built over a ten-year period on land to the west of the the town, between Castle Howard Road and the A64 bypass.

The proposal includes provision for business start-up units, housing, including ones for first-time buyers, families, and retirement properties and large areas of green space.

It also features an extensive network of footpaths linking with existing schools, shops and other nearby facilities.

The event in the Milton Rooms on Saturday, September 6, from 10am to noon, will be an opportunity for residents to question consultants working on the scheme, including master planner Leon Krier, who designed the Prince of Wales’ Poundbury model development in Dorset.

An estate spokesman said the development would be sympathetic to the town and the purpose of its investment in Malton, such as the recent £380,000 revamp of the grade II listed town hall, is to boost the economic viability of the town centre.

He added: "If people have concerns or suggestions, if anything about the proposal is unclear or if you have positive comments, we are keen to hear from you."
