USERS of a community centre have been warned it is expected to remain out of use for up to six weeks while repairs are carried out, from next month.

The centre, serving the people of Blackhill and surrounding areas west of Consett town centre, closes its doors from Monday, September 1.

Blackhill Community Association, which runs the hall and ancillary rooms, in Derwent Street, is keen to stress that contrary to some local rumours, the closure will only be temporary while the refurbishment work takes place.

It is expected to re-open for all regular user groups and activities sometime during mid-October, by which time the committee hopes various renovations and repairs will have been fully completed.

Most of the groups which use the centre will continue to meet, in the meantime, at alternative venues in the area.

Further information about the use of the facilities, hire of the rooms and the estimated reopening date, will be available nearer the time, from association treasurer Amy Hedley, on 01207-580750.

Once repairs are completed the centre can be contacted on 01207-504272.
